A little bit about Abbotsford

Abbotsford British Columbia is in the southern part of this beautiful province. It is located in the Fraser Valley Regional District, and is currently the 5th largest city or municipality in BC. There are about 159,000 people living here in Abbotsford, give or take a few. Abbotsford is in a superb location for many reasons. It is close to the majestic Canadian Rocky Mountains, and not too far from the ocean, and Vancouver area. In terms of an economic and business advantage, Abbotsford is very close to the Canada-US border, making international business with the US fairly easy. From just about anywhere in the city, you'll have an awesome view of Mount Baker, which is a glacier-clad volcano located just to the south.

Of course, since Abbotsford has so many things to offer, it has become quite a desirable place to live. This may contribute to the relatively high housing prices found here. Abbotsford has some of the highest housing prices in all of the Fraser Valley. The average price of a home is more than $309,000 (2003). Townhouses and condos are also fairly expensive. There are many high rise condo's in Abbotsford, offering an alternative to living in a house. Since the cost of owning is so high in Abbotsford, many people are turning to renting homes as an alternative.

As far as the economy of Abbotsford, many people here work in the farming and agriculture industries. Retail and manufacturing are also big contributors to the local economy.
