Calgary is the largest city in Alberta,

Calgary has a nice sized population, too. In 2006 Calgary
was estimated to have 1,060,300 inhabitants. It is the 5th largest metro

high-tech, transportation, film and other services are a large part of

There are two rivers that run through Calgary. The Bow River, and the
Elbow River. Fish Creek Provincial Park is the largest urban park in Canada.
Calgary is surrounded by 2 municipal districts - Rocky View No. 44 to
the north, west and east; and Foothills No. 31 to the south and the city
is right next to the Tsuu T'ina Nation Indian reserve.
The downtown area of the city of Calgary has five neighbourhoods: Eau
Claire (incl. the Festival District), the Downtown West End, the Downtown
Commercial Core, Chinatown, and the Downtown East Village (also a part
of the Rivers District). The Beltline is a densely populated neighbourhood
of Calgary, which includes a few communities such as Midtown.
Just outside of the downtown Calgary area are the following neighborhoods:
Crescent Heights, Sunnyside, Hounsfield Heights/Briar Hill, Hillhurst,
Bridgeland, Renfrew, Mount Royal, Mission & Inglewood.
The inner-city is encircled by quite a few other named neighbourhoods
too that are worth mentioning: Rosedale, North Haven, Mount Pleasant,
Bowness, Parkdale and Westgate. Park Hill, South Calgary (including Marda
Loop), Bankview, Altadore and Killarney to the south of town. Finally
there is Forest Lawn/International Avenue to the east.
Calgary has one of the largest and most established "Chinatowns"
in Canada. We have found that most major cities in Canada have a "Chinatown"
but Calgary's is quite impressive. Adding to the culture of Calgary is
the "Little Italy" neighbourhood of Bridgeland. Another section
of the city that is also quite diverse and cultural is Forest Lawn.
Another neighbourhood worth mentioning in the city is International Avenue.
This area has become known for its ethnic restaurants and cultural diversity.
The beltline district houses quite a number of residential buildings,
apartments, and condos. 17th Avenue, Kensington, Inglewood, Forest Lawn,
Marda Loop and the Mission District are all very popular central districts
in Calgary that usually have a wide mix of shopping, cultural events and
venues, and people.
