Halifax is fairly new in terms of officially being a municipality. It was formed in 1996 by combining the City of Halifax, the City of Dartmouth, the Town of Bedford, and the Municipality of the County of Halifax.

Halifax hosts a variety of Universities and Colleges: Dalhousie University, Saint Mary's University, University of King's College, Atlantic School of Theology, Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University, Mount Saint Vincent University, and the Nova Scotia Community College areall located here. Neighbourhoods of Halifax include the Downtown area which is easily "done" by foot making this a great walking and strolling town. If you are in a hurry, or can't make it by foot, Halifax also has many buses running through the downtown core. Halifax Harbour is on the eastern end of Downtown, and is bordered by Cogswell St. to the north and South Park Street to the west. The South end is another neighbourhood that is generally thought of as the
"upper end" of the town. The Dalhousie Campus is located here, as well as the Dalhousie Arts centre.

The North End of town is vibrant and cultural area of town. Like the South End, this neighbourhood has a large student poplulation. The West End is another neighbourhood of Halifax that has a few malls and subdivisions.

Apartment Rental and Property Management Tidbits - When considering a new rental, the most important element is most often location. A rental that is far from where you work can end up costing quite a bit of cash in terms of commuting costs. Think about the cost/benefit of where you are considering, and also if it seems to be near shops and establishments that you frequent.
