People have asked me if the rental market is strong in Canada, and what cities are really “hot” right now, and why.  Without a doubt, the hottest market from what I can see is the Edmonton/Calgary market.   The Edmonton page on this site gets the most traffic/visits, and I get the most listing requests for that page.

I believe that this is a hot market for several reasons.  Edmonton has a vibrant downtown living scene, and it (based on what I see in our listings) really caters to the younger crowd.   Also, there are many schooling and university choices in the area, so that also brings in the younger crowd.  This group, or demographic, usually does not own property yet, so renting is the alternative.

It also seems like the job market in Edmonton is very strong, and its residents are very tech-saavy.   Posting an online ad is not hard to do for these folks.

Of course, other cities in Canada have some of the same variables – universities, good job markets, etc.  But Edmonton really stands out as the hot market right now.   If anyone has any feedback as to why they think this is such a good place to rent, we’d love to hear it!
