Updated Jan 28,2010 – we have posted a new blog that we think will be helpful – A Scam from Start To Finish – which is the entire e-mail dialougue between a scammer and a renter. You can see it HERE

We have decided today (10.21.08) to start publishing e-mail addresses of people who have targeted the renters on our site (or our site in general), and who have been identified as trying to commit fraud or scams. This list will continue to grow, unfortunately. We hope this information is helpful to anyone who has someone questionable on the ‘other end.’ These people rarely are ‘country or area specific’ and are often attempting scams in multiple countries and locations. Do NOT Do Business With These People!

I had a feeling ti was bogus and I went as far as giving him my name and address. Then this whole thing about shipping a car came in. Harrison has emailed me messages almost exactly to what he mailed to Winston. I have sent him my name, address and phone number but I will stop there. It seemed odd to me that he would want to rent a place that he has never seen. I also asked him for employer references and details of his “personal effects”. He hasn’t replied. I thought it was because he was busy with his mother since she just has surgery. Now I know better.

Harrison called me today and a Vancouver number showed on my caller ID. I am wondering if he is in Vancouver and posing as a shipper and may try and get into the addresses that he obtains. We’ll see.

Aaron Cole is at it again.. This time he’s wanting to book a recording studio for the month of July. I emailed back a quote of $9500. While the 1st email was suspicious, the second email exposed the scam. The one odd factor is he wants to use a credit card to pay, instead of the usual counterfeit cashiers check overpayment method. A stolen credit card would not approve, nor would he have access to chargeback funds if the card was valid because the money would go back on the original card. A legit card would expose his identity.

A Google search on his phone number led me here. Good job!

After a few rounds of emails I gave him a quote and received the following response (which totally indicated to me that this was a scam):

“Dear John,

Oh, he received a phone call at his home asking about his rental. I believe he has since changed his number.

Vivacious, career driven individual, I don’t smoke and drink on very
sparse occasions (probably won’t even consume up to 5 liters in year)
which might be buoyed something very special like a job promotion or
maybe a best friend’s wedding (lol).
I am also not opinionated and will never condemn anyone for their
sexual, religious inclinations or what so ever primordial variables. I
think the day we perceive ourselves beyond such clouts, there would be
world peace and visceral love.
I plan on staying for at least 3 years minimum because my
work contract is for two years and I will be working for Cross Bow
Technology. So I should be able to sign a year contract if there is
need for it.
