Two years after it was founded in the United States, Welcome Wagon was launched in Canada and expanded during the “dirty thirties” from Vancouver to span the length and breadth of all ten provinces and the territories.

The year 2005 marked the celebration of 75 years of Welcome Wagon service in communities from coast to coast in Canada and 26 years of Canadian Ownership. Celebrations were held across the country starting in early April and ending in May. Welcome Wagon’s national executives gathered with regional management and Representatives at each location. Outstanding Representatives were honored as well as outstanding Welcome Wagon communities and local services and merchants who have been a part of Welcome Wagon’s services from ten to seventy-five years.

The Welcome Wagon way of presenting information on public and community services and hospitals and introducing local merchants and services to new residents in a community, provides an important service for them and personalized promotion for the businesses involved.

The Welcome Wagon Representative and her decorated basket personify the concept of a caring community and local businesses to whom people and service are important. Their gifts, greetings, and invitations, delivered by her, say it tangibly.

The token gifts Welcome Wagon brings are thoughtful and may range from a loaf of bread to a magnetic note holder to a car wash. Local information may include maps, detail of garbage pick-up, library location and hours, places of worship, hospitals including volunteering, hospital services and Foundation support and other health services.

Because the families who are welcomed receive the service without charge or obligation, they and the public at large think of Welcome Wagon as a not-for-profit organization. However, an ever-growing sector of the business community is discovering the tremendous value of the direct link that Welcome Wagon provides for them to increase their clientele.

Today, more than 1,200 Welcome Wagon Representatives across Canada work within their local communities. A team of 23 Field Managers hire, train and guide them. From the Head Office in Ontario, more than 45 employees coordinate the Welcome Wagon administrative support, which evolve from representing over 16,000 businesses and visiting more than 300,000 households individually each year.

Welcome Wagon had much to celebrate during its 75th anniversary. In 1999, Welcome Wagon USA announced the end of their home visits.
